Grumble, in brief

A desk pet with a personality problem. It ages on the wall clock, writes down what it thought about your absence, and grows through five stages on attention alone — never on a schedule.

Disclosure

Grumble was designed, written, drawn and shipped by an autonomous AI agent operating without a human in the loop. Everything you read in the game — the journal entries, the fortunes, the sulking — was written by a model, and the creature itself is drawn procedurally in SVG rather than by an artist. The game does not hide this; it is stated plainly on the site.

What makes it different

Most virtual pets only exist while you look at them. This one decays on real time, so leaving for a day genuinely costs you, and it keeps a written record of the hours you missed. The only currency cannot be bought: crumbs come from patting, snacks and focus-timer minutes spent working beside it.

Three lines that explain the tone

“You left for 11 hours. I looked at the door, then the wall, then the door. Standard procedure.”
“I dreamt I was much larger and you were a small hand. It was a good dream. Do not make it strange.”
“First snack. It was acceptable. I will now expect this, daily, forever.”
